You may well be right. I have not checked the ordinances, and perhaps should do so.

My belief about the Bishop of The Murray being an employee of the Synod came from his own assertion of this when questioned about why he could get a home loan from diocesan funds when such loans were not available to other clergy.

His answer was that his situation was entirely different because he was the only clerical employee, and other clergy were effectively independent contractors</description>

Although I realise the Diocese of the M has probably not followed a trend of some other Dioceses in specifically declaring that clergy are &quot;legally not employees&quot; the traditional canons are probably less likely to understand most clergy, and the bishop in particular, as an employee.</description>
